Clint King Sets Sight On Next XFINITY Series Race After Solid Charlotte Debut
Tuesday, October 11th, 2016
CONCORD, North Carolina – Even though the effects of Hurricane Matthew postponed Friday night’s Drive for the Cure 300 at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, NASCAR XFINITY Series regular Clint King surely made the most of the delay.
Not only did the nearly 48-hour break allow King to study his practice sessions around the 1.5-mile speedway, but also partake and watch the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Bank of America 500 on Sunday morning, also delayed by inclement weather.
When engines fired shortly after 4:30 p.m. for the 40-car XFINITY Series field, King had one goal in mind, finish.
During the 200-lap race, the former ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards competitor broaden his horizons in his second XFINITY Series start, but the driver of the No. 15 Warehouse Design / J&L Wire Ford Mustang earned a career-best finish by taking the checkered flag 26th.
For King, an avid short track racer, seeing the checkered under the transition of lights at Charlotte Motor Speedway gave the Denton, North Carolina native some much welcomed momentum.
“I’m really happy with our Charlotte performance,” said King whose finish elevated the No. 15 Ford up in the owner point standings by one position. “I learned a lot out there and I feel like I would have picked up a few more spots if I had gotten another 100 laps or so.
“I can’t thank B.J. McLeod, the B.J. McLeod Motorsports guys, Rick Ware Racing and Carlos Lira for helping make Charlotte become a reality. We headed to Charlotte looking to complete a small series of goals and we accomplished those with a lot of heart and determination. I’m excited for what I hope is ahead.”
Looking ahead after the respectable effort at Charlotte, the 21-year-old hopes to compete at Texas Motor Speedway on Nov. 5 hoping to gain some additional intermediate track experience while keeping the bigger picture on the horizon for 2017.
“We hope to be around a lot more next year,” said King. “Of course, that’s sponsor dependent. But, I’m having a lot of fun, learning a lot behind the wheel and in the garage and I’m hopeful that we can go to Texas and build on Charlotte with the B.J. McLeod Motorsports gang.”
