For Immediate Release Denton, NC(June 2, 2009) -- Some drivers spend their whole racing career chasing a first win in a top notch racing series or never even get the chance to race in one, but 13-year old, Clint King isn't one of those racers.
The 2008 Pro-Challenge Series National Champion made the move up to Late Model Trucks this season originally expecting to compete on a regular basis at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, NC, but when the Pro All Stars Series(PASS) series decided to add the Trucks as a companion series to the PASS South, everything changed. King and his Clint
Clint King Becomes Youngest PASS Truck Series Winner at CPR King Motorsports team led by former Dash Series driver and most recently a champion of Tri-County Motor Speedway, Ricky Bryant decided they were going to tour with the series to help continue King's progression. "The announcement of the tour was perfect for us, we wanted to get Clint experience in full size race cars, but at his age their was really no options to tour around and get experience on different tracks like we did in the Pro Challenge Series," said David King, owner of Clint King Motorsports and Clint's father. King started off the PASS Truck Series in race number one at Dillon Motor Speedway in Dillon, SC and while he didn't set the world on fire, he did keep the truck in one piece and collect a top ten finish. In fact the team double dipped on that Saturday making the trip up to Caraway Speedway and starting in the back of the field and collecting another top ten finish. From there it was on to Hickory Motor Speedway for round number two of the PASS Truck Series and King really started to find his groove behind the wheel of the truck. He qualified strong and then put himself in position to have a great run in second when on a restart another truck ran over him ending his night. At Orange County he qualified second and finished there for his first top three finish, he backed that up at Wake County in the fourth race of the season with a pole run and a second place finish after being inverted on the start to fourth. Coastal Plains Raceway in Jacksonville, NC was up next for King and this time he had a long weekend ahead of him not just on the track, but in his school life of being an everyday ordinary teenager. The weekend started off with King and his crew heading to Coastal Plains for practice on Friday evening, then it was off to Williamsburg, VA as King had to compete in a band competition for South Davidson Middle School. King performed a trumpet solo in the band competition on Saturday morning and then traveled 272 miles back to Coastal Plains Raceway for the Saturday night race. King didn't qualify exceptionally well, but when it came time to race he got up on the wheel moving up toward the front of the field early. King later got by the early leader of the race, who had won the previous three races and it looked as if King would have the race in the bag when a series of late race cautions flew. King kept himself out front through three late race cautions and collected his first career win on the 4/10 mile tri-oval at Coastal Plains Raceway. It was only Clint's fifth start in the PASS Truck Series and sixth overall start in the Late Model Truck, but he became the youngest winner in the PASS Truck Series history. "It took me a little while to really get used to these trucks after racing the smaller Pro Challenge cars, but things happened faster than any of us expected," said Clint King. "It was awesome to win this thing, we did a lot of traveling this weekend with the band competition and I had a lot of fun." "Me and Ricky(Bryant) have worked great together since he joined the team and I think this was our 14th win overall in 28 starts together. I think we've got something special and it looks like we've got everything working with the truck," continued King. Clint was also quick to thank in victory lane his Grandpa, Charles King, and crew members Ricky Whitt and Josh Elkes for their total commitment to making this a winning race team. He and his family traveled over 1,000 miles over the course of the weekend from Denton, NC to Jacksonville, NC to Williamsburg, VA back to Jacksonville and then back home to Denton, NC .... but, no doubt after the win in Jacksonville, NC the final 232 miles back home were the best of Clint's 13-year old life. Clint was especially proud to represent his newest Sponsor, Lakeside Village in victory lane. Lakeside Village is located at 11500 Hwy. 8, Southmont, NC where you will find Peanut Doodles (a scrapbook/stamping shop), Robertson Realty and David Fritts Outdoors. Clint is also supported by Warehouse Design and Butler Built Seats. King and his Clint King Motorsports team will have about five weeks to bask in the glory of his first career PASS Truck Series victory as the series will be off until Sunday, July 5th when the series returns to Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, NC and no doubt he'll be raring to go after that much time off from racing.
