Denton, NC(March 29, 2010) -- A rookie isn't supposed to be able to win in the UARA-STARS Series Late Model Stock Car tour and it's not often it happens, but Clint King became the exception to the rule on Saturday night in Kingsport, TN
King raced among the top five in the season opening race two weeks ago at Hickory Motor Speedway until he was taken out on a restart and relegated to a 16th place finish. As he approached the second UARA-STARS Series race of the season at Kingsport Speedway, King was simply looking to run among the top five and cap it off with a finish up toward the front. King got that and so much more as he qualified on the outside pole after practicing among the top ten all weekend and then drove like a seasoned

veteran en route to his first career Late Model Stock Car and UARA-STARS Series victory.
However it wasn't as easy as King might have made it look as he had to first get himself into the lead of the race from the outside line on the start of the race. That wasn't going to be an easy chore as he had veteran Late Model Stock Car driver, Coleman Pressley starting on his inside, but King was able to muscle his way ahead of the young veteran driver as he launched his Warehouse Design Ford Fusion into the lead
A caution quickly waved over the field however and that kept Pressley and fellow veteran driver, Kyle Grissom glued to King's bumper. King would slip back to second as Grissom took the lead with Pressley along side him for the spot, but again King would find the power to drive back around them and this time he was content to keep his car out front. As the laps ran down, King survived a series of cautions with another veteran driver and former series champion, Lee Tissot on his bumper and kept himself in the lead.
The race then came down to a green, white, checkered finish and King had to survive another challenge by Tissot, but the 14-year old rookie drove as crafty as a veteran as he pulled away and took home the win in the most competitive form of Late Model racing. Clint wasn't surprised he won, he was simply surprised it had come so quickly to him.
"We hoped to maybe get a win this year, but we never thought it would happen in just the second race of the season," said King from victory lane. "There's a lot of tough competition here in the UARA-STARS. This is awesome and I sure won't ever forget capturing my first ever win here at Kingsport Speedway."
King knows how hard it is to win in Late Model Stock Car racing and especially in the UARA-STARS Series as many great rookie drivers haven't won in their rookie season. King's win also made him the youngest ever UARA-STARS Series race winner and winning in his third start puts him second in the fastest to victory lane category behind now NASCAR Nationwide Series driver, Matt DiBenedetto, who won in his second start.
"The credit goes to this team," commented King. "All these guys have worked their butts off this winter and for these last few weeks to make sure we're up front. Ricky(Bryant), my crew chief has done an incredible job and I couldn't ask for a more supportive crew, they've been with me for a long time and it's good to celebrate this win with them."
King will be back in action again this Saturday night at Dillon Motor Speedway, a track he's had success on in other types of cars. This will be the third race of the UARA-STARS Series schedule and King will be looking to make it two in a row, something no rookie driver has ever done.
